The main aim of the project is to introduce the Polish public to the topic of rewilding and the values associated with the presence of wild nature in the landscape in the context of achieving sustainable development goals.
Rewilding is a new conservation strategy that offers hope for restoring lost biodiversity for the benefit of people and the natural environment. With its optimistic message, it can represent a new quality of environmental education in Poland and be an important element in shaping pro-environmental attitudes. A fundamental part of the Communicating rewilding in Poland project was the development of a lecture and materials that present the topic of rewilding.
The aim is to stimulate a wider debate on rewilding in Poland and to open the door to more advanced and integrated action in restoring wild nature to the landscape.
REWILDING?
In response to the ongoing biodiversity crisis and the challenges posed by global warming, the concept of rewilding has evolved. Rewilding aims to release natural ecosystems from anthropogenic disturbances.
allow nature to develop freely
A healthy environment is capable of providing much more than degraded ecosystems. Clean air, fresh water and fertile soil are just some of the processes that nature is responsible for and are the basis for the functioning of life on Earth. Regeneration of nature based on rewilding principles will restore lost ecosystem services, improving human health, wellbeing and security.
The project “Communication of rewilding in Poland” is a project funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt), carried out in cooperation with the organisation Rewilding Oder Delta and the University of Warsaw. The main aim of the project is to introduce the Polish public to the topic of rewilding and the values associated with the presence of wild nature in the landscape in the context of achieving sustainable development goals.
